Bedside Performance Program

Philadelphia - David Falcone
Our volunteer artists do more than carry a tune.  They deliver it in person.

The Bedside Performance Program brings live, in-room performances to patients undergoing treatment or unable to leave their hospital beds. It is a program that inspires smiles and thank yous, sing-a-longs and tears. And beyond much-appreciated moments of entertainment, these one-on-one interactions between musician and patient have the powerful effect of resurrecting the emotions of joy and happiness that often fade away in healthcare facilities.

On average, over 20,000 patients receive inpatient care on a daily basis in New York City hospitals alone. With studies showing that live music can lower blood pressure and reduce depression and anxiety in hospital patients, the Bedside Performance Program is a great opportunity to enhance the quality of care for thousands of patients across the nation.

All of our musicians are volunteers. We screen, train, and schedule the artists who go to our programs at healthcare facilities. At each facility, the artist is escorted by a Musicians On Call volunteer guide who is also selected and trained by MOC. The guide is vital as a liaison between the patient, the musician, and MOC.
