Musicians On Call announces the expansion of its Music Pharmacy program, which brings the healing power of music to patients in hospitals across the country, sponsored by Amazon Music and Bose. The expansion of the program is in an effort to bring more music to patients, families and caregivers in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic, enabling MOC to more than double the number of facilities with Music Pharmacies. Each Music Pharmacy consists of a Fire 7 tablet, donated by Amazon, with free subscriptions to Amazon Music Unlimited and Bose noise cancelling headphones. Patients can enjoy custom-curated playlists to promote positivity and healing in the hospital environment. In addition to a variety of Amazon Music playlists created for the Music […]
EXPANDING PROGRAMS TO DELIVER THE HEALING POWER OF MUSIC
Musicians On Call has a vision of a world filled with the healing power of music. This vision is more critical now than ever.
Through the expansion of our Virtual Bedside Performance Program and Music Pharmacy in 2020, Musicians On Call (MOC) delivered music to more than 150,000 people virtually, the most in a single year in our history. There is still a critical need for the joys of live music in hospitals as pandemic visitor restrictions remain in place. This year, MOC continues to expand our virtual programs with a goal of reaching one million people throughout our 22-year history. MOC has an opportunity to be truly “on call” and will transform how the healing power of music is used to improve the patient and human experience.
Virtual Bedside Performance Program
Musicians On Call’s Virtual Bedside Performance Program brings Volunteers Guides and Volunteer Musicians directly to pediatric and adult patients, caregivers, and those in need of remote, live music through 1×1 intimate performances and hospital-wide concerts. By utilizing video conferencing technology, Volunteer Guides host a live performance from a Volunteer Musician. Because of this unique set up, volunteers and those dialing in can be located all over the country and multiple hospitals can join at once.
Musicians On Call currently has 30 programs a month, and more than 150,000 people have received the healing power of music virtually.
Musicians On Call’s Music Pharmacy gives patients innovative technology to access the healing power of music at their bedside, including tablets equipped with streaming music and noise cancelling headphones. Each Music Pharmacy hospital recipient will receive three tablets programmed with Amazon Music streaming services and Bose noise canceling headphones. In addition, they include custom curated playlists featuring music that promotes positivity and healing for the hospital environment. Each Music Pharmacy is provided to hospitals completely set up, and ready for patient use.
There are hospitals in all 50 states that share Music Pharmacies with their patients.
In 2020, Musicians On Call released the #MOCHeals Playlist, a compilation of music videos recorded by MOC volunteers with patients in mind. This playlist is shared with hospital partners to offer to their patients and can be viewed on YouTube by anyone in need of a pick-me-up.
Check out some of our volunteers below or view the playlist in its entirety on Musicians On Call’s YouTube channel.
Latest COVID-19 News
Warren Pohl (left in the photo above), Volunteer Musician for Musicians On Call in Chicago, was featured on a TODAY Show segment honoring lives lost to COVID-19. We are grateful to have Warren as a volunteer and thanks to his Volunteer partner, Randy Leggee, they performed for over 300 patients, families and caregivers. Before his passing, Warren recently shared with us what MOC meant to him: And this makes me think of your organization MOC and the motto, “the healing power of music”. It seems that the motto goes both ways. It’s great to be able to put a smile on a face, or a glint in the eye of someone stuck in a hospital…and better yet, see them […]
Dear MOC Family, Like most of you, the Musicians On Call (MOC) team has been keeping a close watch on the news surrounding COVID-19. As of today, March 10, 2020, this is our best current view of the situation as it pertains to Musicians On Call. As the virus continues to spread across the country, many of our hospital partners have suspended volunteer programs in their facilities. This affects Musicians On Call volunteers and our Bedside Performance Program. Out of an abundance of caution, and in consultation with our team and healthcare partners, I’ve decided to pause our Bedside Performance Program for the next three weeks to ensure we are doing our part to keep our volunteers and the people […]
