The Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America (TIAA) has announced the TIAA Difference Maker 100 List of national community leaders honored for their work within their regions. Musicians On Call President Pete Griffin was honored in the Arts & Culture category for his leadership in expanding the organization’s mission and bringing its programs to more markets across the country. With this honor, Musicians On Call will receive $10,000 towards its programs, including its flagship Bedside Performance Program.
“We are proud to have brought the healing power of music to more than 675,000 people across the country, and thanks to this gift from TIAA we will be able to reach thousands more through our Bedside Performance Program,” said Griffin, “Studies have shown that music can improve the patient experience in ways like alleviating pain and improving blood pressure. As we continue to expand our program, more patients, family members and caregivers will be able to experience how music heals.”
In celebration of TIAA’s 100th year of serving those who serve others, TIAA recognized 100 people who, like Griffin, work for a nonprofit and are making significant contributions in their community or the world. TIAA is awarding each Difference Maker 100 Honoree with a $10,000 donation to support the nonprofit organization through which they make a difference. The honorees were selected from among more than 4,000 entries.
The 100 honorees represent a wide range of nonprofit organizations from across the country working in areas such as social impact issues, health and wellness, education and technology, arts and culture, and the environment. They were selected by a panel of judges based on their impact, creativity, perseverance and motive.
“We could think of no better way to commemorate our centennial than to celebrate the people we have a mission to serve – the millions of nonprofit professionals driven by purpose and service – and to help enable them to continue having a positive impact on the world,” said Roger W. Ferguson, Jr., president and CEO of TIAA. “We were delighted to receive over 4,000 submissions. Each represents an inspiring story that epitomizes what it means to be a difference maker.”
