Boston Bedside Performance Programs Officially Launched with the help of Ingrid Michaelson at Tufts Floating Children’s Hospital

Musicians On Call was joined by hit recording artist Ingrid Michaelson on Saturday, December 15 to visit patients at Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center. Michaelson went room to room and played her ukulele for patients and their families as part of Musicians On Call’s Bedside Performance Program. Songs included “You and I,” “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Mele Kalikimaka.” Ingrid made the special trip before her Songs For The Season show at the Orpheum Theatre.

“It’s such a pleasure to join Musicians On Call to give the gift of joy to the kids here at Tufts Floating Children’s Hospital,” said Ingrid Michaelson. “Performing Christmas music always puts me in a better mood so hopefully it brightened the day of these kids.”

Michaelson’s visit to Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center was part of MOC’s official launch of its ongoing Bedside Performance Program in the Boston area. The organization first began bringing volunteers into Boston-area healthcare facilities in 2016. Volunteer Musicians and Guides now visit patients on a weekly basis at the Boston VA Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children. Since the program began in 2016, more than 4,000 local patients, their families and caregivers have experienced the healing power of music. This Saturday Dec. 22, Musicians On Call Volunteer Musicians will be on hand to continue the celebration at the New England To Nashville Country Girls in The City concert at Loretta’s Last Call, where proceeds will benefit Musicians On Call.

“We’ve had incredible support from the people in this community ever since we first announced wanting to start our Bedside Performance Program in Boston,” said Musicians On Call President Pete Griffin, “We were thrilled to bring Ingrid Michaelson to Floating Hospital for Children to share her wonderful talents and holiday cheer with everyone she visited as we officially launched our first programs in Massachusetts.”
