Meet Cheryl Stephenson, our featured volunteer from Phoenix!

Get to know our volunteers!

Do you volunteer at a specific hospital? I volunteer at Phoenix Children’s and the VA

How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? 1 year

Are you a Volunteer Guide or Volunteer Musician? Guide

What is your occupation outside of MOC? Small Business Owner

What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? My late husband and I took up concert promoting in 2008, cancer hit in 2012. Music was a huge part of our journey during his illness and passing. I knew the healing power of music. So, when MOC opened in Phoenix, I jumped right in.

What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? Before, I gave money, not time or part of my soul. I believe if you can give money, give money. If you can give time, give time. If you can give both, even better.

Has your life changed because of your experience with MOC? Honestly, it has been healing and inspiring. Each experience touches my heart and soul. And, as a bonus, I have met some new friends that have become near and dear to me!

What is your favorite #MOCmoment? Ooh, there are so many! I would say at the VA when we entered a room, a nurse had offered Lawrence Welk on the TV to the resident. She said to us, “Lawrence Welk, I like Bruce Springsteen!” You can guess what we played!
