Meet Jessie Williams, Our Featured Volunteer from Murfreesboro!

Get to know our volunteers!

Do you volunteer at a specific hospital? I volunteer at the Murfreesboro VA

How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? This is my first year

Are you a volunteer guide or musician? Guide

What is your occupation outside of MOC? I’m a Jill of all trades with a passion for side hustles. I like to be in charge of my own schedule.

Do you have any hidden talents? I have a huge smile and have superskills when it comes to loving others. I also have a Pollyanna like gift of seeing the positives and finding something to be grateful for in most situations.

What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? I love music!! I grew up in a small town in Idaho participating in a local junior musical playhouse. I love music from the 40’s and anything old school broadway. Music soothes my soul and I believe it can be a reminder of who we are! I wanted to participate in MOC after chatting with a friend. She invited me to participate. Little did I know how much it would come to mean to me. At the long term care center, there is a dementia/Alzheimer’s wing. My dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s this last year. I love how music can reconnect those who have lost pieces of themselves. Songs have a way of reminding them who they once were. Working with MOC this past year has helped me to find peace with my dad’s diagnosis and joy in helping to remind others like him of who they are.

What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? It’s definitely less stress. I just show up, smile and enjoy the music.

Has your life changed because of your experience with Musicians On Call? I’ve gained a greater appreciation for those who have served our country. I’ve been inspired by the musicians who serve and share their gifts and talents so freely.

What is your favorite #MOCmoment? My favorite moments are those where the music shines a light in someone and reminds them of who they really are.
