Meet Ken Knowlton, Our Featured Volunteer from New York!

Get to know our volunteers!

What Virtual Program do you volunteer with? I volunteer for Senior Center Self Help

How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? I’ve been volunteering since early 2002

Are you a volunteer guide or musician? Musician

What is your favorite song to play for patients? The Way you Look Tonight

Which demographic do you love playing for and why? I’m an old soul at heart. I have 2 older brothers (10 yrs older) and my parents were older when I was born. I always felt this might be the reason why I feel such a connection there and love the songs from that era as well!

What is your occupation outside of MOC? Sales/Marketing in the building tech business (sustainability)

Do you have any hidden talents? Funny to answer from the music perspective, because music is always my answer to the hidden talent question in my professional life! I do get a kick out of creating comedy sketch ideas, funny tee shirts, and the like, but have never pursued other than for my own enjoyment. I’ll say it’s a talent but not really sure that’s the case!

What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? My connection to music started at an early age and really can’t explain, was always there. For me music is a real-time (live), improvisational form, and therefore the one-on-one, intimate nature of the MOC experience, coupled with the inherent “unknown” of what each patient interaction may bring, makes MOC a perfect fit.
