Get to know our volunteers!
How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? I have been volunteering for so many years, I’ve lost count! Maybe 5?
Are you a volunteer guide or musician? Musician
What is your favorite song to play for patients? I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You
Do you perform anywhere else besides with MOC? I’ve played a lot of venues in Nashville, and once in Atlanta, but not currently. Hopefully I’ll find some more venues in my new city (ATL)!
What is your occupation outside of MOC? Communications Consultant
What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? Music has been a part of me since before I can remember. It’s like it runs through my veins. It’s been a gift to me – something that grounds me, something that I can express myself through, something that has been personally impactful in my own life. Having the opportunity to share that with others is a true privilege and gift in itself.
What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? Music is something that I love and have loved my whole life – and I get to share it and experience it with others.
Has you live changed because of your experience with Musicians On Call? The perspective of the patients and their family members has inspired me and challenged my own perspective.
What is your favorite #MOCmoment? I once played for a patient and family member in Nashville, but the patient wasn’t awake. Because of this, I couldn’t ask what the patient wanted to hear. So instead, I played one of my favorite songs that came to mind. When I finished and looked up, the family member was nearly in tears, and said, “That is MY favorite song.” I realized that this program impacts not just the patients, but their loved ones as well.
