Meet Marteen Longo, Our Featured Volunteer from Miami!

Get to know our volunteers!

Do you volunteer at a specific hospital? Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital

How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? over 3 years

Are you a volunteer guide or musician? Guide

What is your occupation outside of MOC? retired school teacher/administrator

What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? Who doesn’t hum/sing along when they hear a great tune being played. Forget your problems, forget where you are, even forget the words sometimes – it just makes you happy to listen or be a part of it and enjoy for the moment.

What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? There is not really any sort of “work” involved, only sheer pleasure. Seeing patients and families smiles and the many ‘thank yous” from all makes me feel like I am a part of truly helping make their day a little easier.

What is your favorite #MOCmoment? When the patient, a little 5 year old boy, jumped up and ran to the very pretty young singer, grabbed her around her legs and said “I love you”. She lowered herself to return his hug and said “I love you to”. A moment I will never forget.
