Do you volunteer at a specific hospital? I perform for patients at Phoenix Children’s & VA Hosptial
How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? I have been with MOC for 2 years
Are you a volunteer guide or musician? Musician
What is your favorite song to play for patients? Colors of the Wind from Pocahontas
Do you perform anywhere else besides with MOC? I’ll play at local restaurants, bars, coffee shops, golf clubs and private events
What is your occupation outside of MOC? I am a Front Desk Admin at my children’s school in the Madison School District
Do you have any hidden talents? I am a certified Yoga Instructor and currently in school completing my advanced teacher diploma
What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? I have been singing since I was in grade school and have always felt that I need to share my music in a bigger way. This is the first time I have really felt I was making a difference in someone’s day. I feel like we all have a gift that needs to be shared with the world and this just happens to be mine.
What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? I love that I’m having personal contact with the patients.
Has your life changed because of your experience at MOC? It is the first time I have really felt how impactful music can be when shared. I’m used to sharing my music for entertainment, not necessarily to help heal so that is very powerful.
What is your favorite #MOCmoment? My favorite #MOCmoment was when I selected a song for a patient at VA. It was a very old song that is no longer played on the radio called, “The Old Lamplighter”. The patient was not able to speak but there was a very noticeable difference in his facial expression and alertness upon hearing the song. There were a couple of family members with him and they were in tears because they had not seen him respond to anything in days.
