Meet Richard Hoynes, Our Featured Volunteer from Murfreesboro!

Get to know our volunteers!

Do you volunteer at a specific hospital? Alvin York VA Hospital

How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? 2 years

Are you a volunteer guide or musician? Guide

What is your occupation outside of MOC? Draftsman for a steel company

Do you have any hidden talents? Guitar playing

What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? My mom had a music therapist when she was in hospice. She would come alive when the music started. She passed away in 2017 and my wife Martina and I moved to Murfreesboro. We both love music and I wanted to give back for the joy that it brought my Mom.

What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? This is my first volunteer experience. It’s a great organization to be associated with

Has your life changed because of your experience with Musicians On Call? Yes. Visiting at the VA just makes my day go so much better. Knowing you could make someone happy for a few minutes is worth it

What is your favorite #MOCmoment? The day that one of the patients was singing along with the music. A nurse looked in and said that he hasn’t said anything for days. WORTH IT.
