Do you volunteer at a specific hospital? I volunteer wherever I’m needed! I’ve done Hospice, Vanderbilt Critical Care Tower, Bordeaux Long Term Care, and Murfreesboro VA
How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? 10 months
Are you a Volunteer Guide or Volunteer Musician? Musician
What is Your Favorite Song to Sing for Patients? One of my own, “Kinda Feels Like”. It’s an upbeat song and I love seeing the patients light up with smiles to it! Some of them have even started singing along with me which is always awesome!
Have you ever been part of an impromptu jam session with patients or family in a hospital room? No, but I’ve had patients start singing along with me. I also have one patient that likes to break out his harmonica and play for me, which is always cool!
Do you perform anywhere else besides with MOC? Yes! Performing is my passion!! I play shows all over the country … Florida, Carolinas, Nebraska, Virginia … you name it!
What is your occupation outside of MOC? Singer/Songwriter
Do You Have Any Hidden Talents? Not that I know of … yet! LOL!
What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? Well, I like to say it’s in my blood! Roy Rogers is a distant relative of mine so in the back of my mind, I’ve always wanted to do my part in carrying out his legacy. I’ve always loved music and I’ve always wanted to use my music to help people. Volunteering with MOC gives me the opportunity to do that … and I love it and couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity!
What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? The personal (one-on-one) connection you get with each patient. Every room and every facility is different. I love being able to see the amount of joy that one song can bring!
Has your life changed because of your experience with MOC? Yes! It’s given me a greater opportunity to use my talents for good. It always reminds me that my gifts and talents are meant for more than my own personal wants/dream.
What is your favorite #MOCmoment? I’m not sure that I have a favorite so to speak. One that stands out was an old retired pastor who sang along with me to “Amazing Grace”. It was a really moving moment!!
