As a Board member and Volunteer Musician for Musicians On Call, Kevin O’Toole has witnessed music heal on a regular basis. Since he joined the National Board of Directors in 2013, he has transformed hospital rooms in New York and Nashville into one-on-one concerts through the Bedside Performance Program. Then, with his recent diagnosis of cancer, it became his turn to receive the healing power of music.

We couldn’t help but find a way to deliver the healing power of music in his time of need. In gratitude for Kevin’s continued commitment to Musicians On Call, we launched the newest Music Pharmacy launch in his name at the facility in Milwaukee where he was receiving chemotherapy, making it the first Music Pharmacy in the Wisconsin.

Music Pharmacy is Musicians On Call’s digital initiative to help bring music to patients on their own time. Each Music Pharmacy package contains noise-cancelling headphones, tablets set up with Pandora as well as customized Pandora playlists to find the right music for healing.

Kevin was delighted to receive the Music Pharmacy:

“Being the first person to use a Music Pharmacy in Wisconsin is an honor that I won’t take lightly. In fact, it arrived just in time for us to begin round 3 of chemo next week!”

We were happy to hear that the Music Pharmacy was helpful in helping time pass by during the long chemotherapy sessions.

“Kevin is one of MOC’s unsung heroes who has done so much for the organization through the years, despite living in a city where our programs don’t exist yet,” said Pete Griffin, President and CEO of Musicians On Call. “His passion for using music as a tool to help others through their toughest times has helped thousands, so its our honor and privilege to do what we can to return the favor.”

“When I joined MOC it was the passion, mission and my belief in the healing power of music. My resolve is stronger now than it’s ever been. Music Heals!” – Kevin O’Toole
