Musicians On Call and Amazon #DeliveringSmiles to Hospital Patients

This holiday season, Musicians On Call teamed up with Amazon to spread the joy of music in healthcare facilities. As a part of its #DeliveringSmiles campaign, Amazon donated 30 Fire HD 8 tablets for Musicians On Call’s Music Pharmacy. During a special holiday visit to the Alvin C. York Campus of the VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro one Pharmacy was presented to Tom Gallagher, Chief of Voluntary Service at the VA, and staff. The Music Pharmacy was presented by Grammy-nominated, Platinum-certified singer/songwriter Cassaddee Pope, who later visited with Veterans for a special holiday Bedside Performance Program. Musicians On Call’s Music Pharmacy provides hospitals across the country with access to digital streaming music through tablets equipped with specialized playlists designed to promote positivity and healing for the hospital environment.

“Studies have shown that music can manage stress, alleviate pain and improve pain tolerance, blood pressure, outlook and overall mood. With our Music Pharmacy program we are able to bring these healing benefits to patients any time throughout the day. It’s thanks to the generous donations from partners like Amazon that we are able to provide these pharmacies at no cost to the facilities. We are very grateful to them for enabling us to spread more cheer this holiday season,” said Musicians On Call President & CEO Pete Griffin.

Thanks to the donation from Amazon, patients at the VA and other hospitals across the country can access the healing power of music whenever they need it through playlists based on their mood. Using Amazon Fire HD 8 tablets, patients can select from custom Pandora mixtapes including “Prescription Strength,” showcasing songs promoting perseverance and hope, “Chill Refill” for when it’s time to relax, and “Dose of Joy” featuring songs from some of MOC’s many celebrity supporters. Each Music Pharmacy is provided to hospitals free-of-charge, completely set up, and ready for patient use.
