Anne Holt of Nashville News 2 Goes Behind The Scenes With Musicians On Call Programs

As Musicians On Call continues its 20th Anniversary Celebration, we invited Anne Holt of WKRN Nashville to take a look behind the scenes as Volunteer Guide, Jenny Cain, led Volunteer Musician, Jacob Stiefel, to perform for patients at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Holt sat with each volunteer and discussed how they have been impacted by the healing power of music through the Musicians On Call program.  Jenny’s grandfather recently experienced the Bedside Performance Program during his hospital stay:

It was night seven. I looked up and saw a guy with a guitar out in the hallway. He stood at the door and played a bluegrass song for my papa, who loved bluegrass. It just changed our night. It brought joy, it brought healing, it brought happiness. It gave us hope to sort of keep going.

Holt also spoke with President and CEO of Musicians On Call, Pete Griffin, who helped shed light on how MOC programs brighten the day of not only the patient, but also those delivering the healing power of music:

Our hundreds of volunteers here in Nashville and across the country go room to room and make people feel better during what is usually their toughest day. When people come and play music for someone who’s going through a really bad day, and you see in a couple of minutes they start to smile and sing along, you realize you can help bring that kind of happiness to someone. It’s really contagious.

You can join us in commemorating our two decades of programs just like this one at the 20th Anniversary Kickoff Celebration Presented By Pepsi at the CMA Theater at the Country Music Hall of Fame on May 31st. Limited tickets and sponsorships are available at musiciansoncall.org/moc20
