MOC and Southwest Airlines Team Up to Bring Nils Lofgren to Phoenix Children’s Hospital

To celebrate MOC’s one year anniversary in Phoenix, member of the E Street Band and friend of Musicians On Call, Nils Lofgren, and his wife Amy, stopped by Phoenix Children’s Hospital and shared a performance with the patients and their families. The show, which took place in The Zone and broadcasted through closed circuit tv throughout the hospital, featured his track “Wonderland” and covers of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds,” Sam Cooke’s “It’s a Wonderful World” and Neil Young’s “Long May You Run.” He also took questions from the audience about his life as a touring musician.

CBS5 was there for an exclusive look at the program.

Nils Lofgren has been a long time supporter of Musicians On Call. Last year, Lofgren joined fellow E Street Band Member Charlie Giordano to help launch our Dallas program with Bedside Performances for patients as well as a lobby performance.

This visit was one of three special Bedside Performance Programs where Musicians On Call is teaming up with Southwest Airlines. The visits are handpicked at hospitals with grant recipients of the Southwest Airlines Medical Transportation Grant Program (MTGP), where they provide complimentary, roundtrip tickets to nonprofit hospitals and medical transportation organizations.

“Musicians On Call is excited to partner with Southwest Airlines to bring experiences like this to hospital patients. This visit was an incredible way to celebrate our one year anniversary in Phoenix where we have played for over 3,000 patients, familes and caregivers so far,” said Pete Griffin, Musicians On Call President. “We are grateful to Nils and Amy Lofgren, who have supported us for over a decade, for making this special day possible.”

“Southwest Airlines is passionate about connecting People to what’s important in their lives and our Medical Transportation Grant Program allows us to connect patients to the specialized medical care they need,” said Laurie Barnett, Southwest Airlines Managing Director Communication and Outreach. “We’re excited that by partnering with Musicians On Call, we are able to further support those deserving patients by connecting them to the healing power of music.”

Thanks, Nils, Amy and Southwest Airlines, for your support!
