MOC is expanding the MOC Bedside and Virtual programs to Houston to share the healing power of music in local facilities. Volunteer Guides and Musicians will visit patients at HCA Houston Kingwood, HCA Clear Lake and The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, going room to room to perform directly at the bedsides of patients. These facilities can also join MOC’s ongoing virtual programs and enjoy 30-minute, interactive live broadcasts of volunteer performances.

In celebration of this expansion, Musicians On Call welcomed Volunteer Musician Lain Gray to The Woman’s Hospital of Texas to launch these new programs. In a room filled with hospital staff and caregivers, leadership from the hospital and Musicians On Call marked the special occasion and enjoyed a performance by Gray. MOC also presented the facility with a commemorative Gibson Guitar in celebration of the partnership. Following the program, Gray visited patient bedsides for one-on-one moments. The expansion of MOC’s programs is possible thanks to a collaboration with HCA Healthcare.

“By expanding our live music programs to Houston, we are opening up access to music’s many healing qualities. It’s proven that music can manage stress, alleviate pain, improve blood pressure, and enhance overall mood and outlook in a hospital, and we’ve seen all of these benefits firsthand through MOC Bedside and Virtual,” said Musicians On Call President & CEO Pete Griffin. “Thank you to Lain Gray and The Woman’s Hospital of Texas for joining us in celebrating the launch of these important programs. We look forward to serving the patients, families and caregivers in the Houston community and giving them the chance to experience the healing power of music for themselves.”

“We all know and understand the impact that music has on our live, and I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to offer our patients the opportunity to enjoy live music during their hospital stay,” said Jeanna Bamburg, CEO of The Woman’s Hospital of Texas. “It has been an amazing experience to see how our patients, their family members, and our care team light up when our musicians enter the room and share their talent.”

Musicians On Call is looking for musicians and music lovers to help share the joys of live music in Houston as certified MOC Volunteers. Volunteer Musicians are local, professional-caliber musicians who perform hopeful songs at the bedside or live during virtual programs. Volunteer Guides act as the “eyes and ears” of MOC, leading the musician through the experience of playing for patients and liaising between families and staff, both at the bedside and virtually.
