Charles Esten Leads a Patriotic VA Tribute

Ahead of Independence Day, a powerful celebration unfolded inside the newly renovated auditorium at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Longtime MOC volunteer, actor, and singer-songwriter Charles Esten brought patients and staff together for an unforgettable day of connection, fellowship, and song.

The event featured heartfelt performances that quickly turned into room-wide singalongs. Charles led the crowd through a spirited rendition of “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” before being joined by Veteran resident and former Grand Ole Opry member John Frost for a moving performance of “God Bless the U.S.A.” Following the main gathering, he took the music directly to the bedside for Veterans unable to attend the auditorium show. To date, MOC volunteers have brought the healing power of live music to more than 107,000 Veterans in VA hospitals across the country.

These Veterans are fighting a battle themselves sometimes here in the hospital. So it makes sense to me that they should get their own shows, and that's what Musicians On Call is all about. It's about bringing music to the places it's needed most. Charles Esten
