Meet Aubrea Alford, Our Featured Volunteer from Denver!
Get to know our volunteers!
Do you volunteer at a specific hospital? I perform for patients at Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center.
How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? I have been with MOC for a little over 1 year!
Are you a volunteer guide or musician? Musician
What is your favorite song to play for patients? My favorite thing to do – when it feels right – is to create a song on the spot for the patients that is specially crafted for them.
Do you perform anywhere else besides with MOC? Yes, I perform freelance with various indie bands, folk musicians, a finger style guitarist, and play in a duo with a bass player!
What is your occupation outside of MOC? I am the Marketing and Brand Manager for HOPE Foods
Do you have any hidden talents? I would say I’m pretty talented at making playlists
What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? Music has always been a part of my life (my mom is a musician!) and I think it is one of the most amazing forms of expression. I love volunteering with MOC because it is a format where the music isn’t about me, it’s about others. Having a chance to share that gift and see the direct effect it has is so incredibly powerful!
What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? I LOVE having a guide – it makes all the difference in the world! I love the people I have met who have been my guides and appreciate so much the work they do!
What is your favorite #MOCmoment? This was during my first program: walking into one of the rooms I had the sense I should play a very specific classical piece called Meditation from Thais. After the song finished, the patient had tears in her eyes and said that was one of her favorite pieces, but she hadn’t heard it in years and never even knew the name. I’ll never forget that!
