What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? I saw a special on MOC on CBS Sunday Morning and absolutely loved the concept/mission. I called MOC the next day and asked how soon I could sign up as a volunteer. Combining my love for helping others with my passion for music was a perfect fit.
What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? While the musicians are performing for the patients, you see the immediate impact it has on everyone in the room. You really feel like you made a real-time difference.
Has your life changed because of your experience with Musicians On Call? Yes! I have become more empathetic toward others and more grateful for my own blessings.
What is your favorite #MOCmoment? During one of our programs, we entered a room and asked the patient and his parents if they would like to hear the musician play and sing a song. The patient replied, by saying, “no,” but offered to sing us a song. The musician proceeded to play guitar while the patient sang to us. In spite of everything the patient had been through that day, he gave us the healing power of music. It was a complete role reversal. That moment made my day! I’ll never forget it!
