Meet Larry Edginton, our featured volunteer from the San Francisco Bay Area!
Get to know our volunteers!
Do you volunteer at a specific hospital? I volunteer at San Francisco VA Hospital
How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? One year
Are you a Volunteer Guide or Volunteer Musician? Guide
What is your occupation outside of MOC? Business Development
What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? I am a 7th generation Californian, married to my awesome Wife Melinda and we have two beautiful Daughters Emma and Olivia. Since my youth beginning in school music has always been a part of my life and will always be. My intro to MOC was through a dear Friend of mine Raffaella Braun who volunteers in Arizona. We spoke about it in detail and discussed the mission of MOC. I loved what I heard and I knew this was a fit for me. In a matter of days I had an email from Dana Sones to begin the process of becoming a Volunteer!
What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? The PEOPLE make the difference. We all get along and communicate so well with a shared vision and goal of brining bedside performances to so many patients, their families and the hospital staff
Has your life changed because of your experience with MOC? My experience with MOC has changed my perspective on today’s busy life to slow down and listen to the music in a way I have never experienced which in turn I use in my professional and family life
What is your favorite #MOCmoment? My favorite #MOCmoment was a patient singing along from beginnng to end “Sitting on the dock of the bay” and thanking us for taking him back to a special time in his life. He then followed up by saying “this is the best medicine that any hospital could ever give me”
