Meet Sara Kaye Larson, Our Featured Volunteer from Memphis!
Get to know our volunteers!
What Virtual Program do you volunteer with? I volunteer for our Tennessee programs.
How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? I’ve been a volunteer for one year!
Are you a volunteer guide or musician? Guide
What is your occupation outside of MOC? I’m the Chief Heart Officer for VIA Productions
Do you have any hidden talents? Not exactly hidden (I’m too much a ham for hiding) but I’m a writer and filmmaker. I also have nice handwriting and can drive a stick shift.
What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? Music is the best way to connect with the moment, no matter what else is going on. I’m a young adult cancer survivor and have spent time in hospitals. It can be so many things; scary, boring, smelly, annoying, stressful, and, most of all, it can make you feel disconnected. When I found out Musicians on Call brought smiling faces and live music right to patients, I had to find a way to participate. I remember just how many people came in and out of my hospital room and if one of those had been carrying a guitar (or tuba) it would have been the most delightful unexpected break. Using music, something that connects us all, is such a fun and powerful way to bring light into someone’s day.
