Meet Steve Boucher, Our Featured Volunteer from Baltimore!

Get to know our volunteers!

Do you volunteer at a specific hospital? I perform for patients at the Baltimore VA

How long have you been volunteering with Musicians On Call? I have been with MOC for over a year!

Are you a volunteer guide or musician? Musician

What is your favorite song to play for patients? I focus on songs that relate to going somewhere else or traveling to take them away for a little while in a genre that fits them.

Have you ever been part of an impromptu jam session with patients or family in a hospital room? Sure, many times this happens with Family member or multiple patients in a room. These are very special times where this level of engagement delivers the best patient experience.

Do you perform anywhere else besides with MOC? I have recently played at a spotlight concert and also put on a charity event highlighting MOC and giving donations back to the organization.

What is your occupation outside of MOC? Regional Director for Compass Group

Do you have any hidden talents? No, I am just a Normal Guy that enjoys music and helping others along with time with my family and friends.

What is your story? What connects you with music and why do you volunteer with MOC? I lost my father in May of 2018. They had a music program that came through Saturday afternoons at the Hospice facility and he was excited to learn about it. We lost him the next day on Saturday AM before the program came through and I thought I need to look into how I can support a program like this in my hometown.

What makes MOC different from your other volunteer experiences? I believe working in teams is great, having great support from our Program Manager Kelli Bruno and mostly seeing and feeling the direct impact instantly with the patients.

Has your life changed because of your experience at MOC? I so look forward to playing each month and will always try to fill in extra when asked to support this program. Everyone needs to give back in their own way and this is my favorite of all the things I do in the community.

What is your favorite #MOCmoment? This is a very hard one to answer as there are many on most programs. When the patients get emotional, participate by singing or humming or tapping their feet, family members sing or caregivers, it just takes things to the next level.
