VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System Program Launched With The Railers

Musicians On Call recently launched our newest Bedside Performance Program in Denver at VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System with the help of country music performers Jonathan and Cassandra Lawson of The Railers. The duo performed original songs and some of their favorite covers during a special visit with patients, families and caregivers in the facility.

“In the three years we have been in Denver we’ve welcomed an incredible group of volunteers to the Musicians On Call family, and we look forward to welcoming even more as we offer the joys of live music to everyone at the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System,” said MOC President Pete Griffin. “We had a wonderful time bringing The Railers through the facility to put a smile on faces and hear the incredible stories of the Veterans who were there. I know our ongoing visits will be a very uplifting experience for the patients, staff and our volunteers.”

The Railers have brought their soulful country harmonies to patients in facilities in Nashville as Volunteer Musicians. They also joined us in October 2017 when we visited Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas. There they brought the joy and healing of live music to victims, their families, caregivers and first responders after the tragedy at the Route 91 Harvest Festival.

“What we love about volunteering with Musicians On Call is the opportunity it provides to bring people together and connect through our love of music. To have our music stir up great memories for the patients who hear it is an incredible feeling,” said Jonathan Lawson of The Railers, “We shared laughs and great conversations with so many inspiring people during our visit. We are excited to see this program expanding in Denver and were very grateful to be a part of launching it at VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System.”

Since launching in Denver in 2015 at Children’s Hospital Colorado, Musicians On Call volunteers have played for almost 4,500 individuals in the area. We were able to expand our program to VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System thanks to funding from the Anschutz Foundation.
