It’s no secret that music can help you feel better.
That’s why Musicians On Call brings music to the people who need it most – hospital patients.
Musicians On Call brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities. By delivering live, in-room performances to patients undergoing treatment or unable to leave their beds, we add a dose of joy to life in a healthcare facility.
We seek to change the cold, sterile environment in hospital rooms. Musicians On Call believes that all patients, families and caregivers should have access to and benefit from the healing power of live music. It has been demonstrated that music has a direct effect on people and can:
Improve Blood Pressure
Alleviate Pain and Improve Pain Tolerance
Improve Outlook and Overall Mood
Bedside Performance Program
We bring volunteers to hospitals to perform at the bedsides of patients. At each Bedside Performance Program, a Volunteer Musician is escorted room to room in a healthcare facility by a Volunteer Guide or a hospital staff member to perform at the bedsides of patients or residents. This simple process can bring about miraculous changes for patients. We’ve seen Veterans move their injured limbs to the music—and children smile for the first time since they’ve been in the hospital to receive treatment for cancer. These one-on-one interactions between musician and patient have the powerful effect of restoring the happiness that often fades away in healthcare facilities.
Our Programs In Action
Across the country, we deliver live music to the bedsides of patients. CBS Sunday Morning went behind the scenes with Musicians On Call for an exclusive look at our programs.
Our Work With Veterans
Musicians On Call is proud to deliver the healing power of music to our nation’s Veterans and their families.
Virtual Bedside Performances
The Virtual Bedside Performance Program broadcasts to patients at various healthcare facilities or to homebound patients through Google Hangouts or a similar interactive video calling service.
Project Playback gives patients the chance to write and record their own original music with a Musicians On Call volunteer. The songs are recorded in the hospital and then we host a CD release party for the patients, family and caregivers to celebrate their work.
Musicians On Call’s Music Pharmacy gives patients innovative technology to access the healing power of music at their bedside, including tablets equipped with Pandora and noise-cancelling headphones to provide patients access to music right at their bedside.
